Evaluation of a condom distribution trial in Victorian prisons

Past project

The Centre for Population Health has been commissioned by Justice Health (Department of Justice) to evaluate a pilot program introducing condoms and dental dams for prisoner use into Victorian prisons.

Approach

The project will entail a process evaluation and impact modelling using a mixture of qualitative and quantitative methods.

Initially the program has been implemented in four prisons. An examination of barriers to implementation, positive and adverse outcomes during this pilot stage will inform the roll-out out of condoms and dental dams to the remaining Victorian prisons in 2012.
